First Time For Everything

Well, it happened, my car of only 1 year got into a wreck. I guess there is a first time for everything.  Yes, I’m ok and no, it wasn’t my fault. I guess I got lucky and the lady that hit me was very honest and up front about her liability in the accident. Luckily, it wasn’t a hit and run and she has insurance.
So what happened? I was leaving work, I had made it only a few blocks and as I was driving through the intersection only going about 20 mph,  a truck changed lanes right into me. Yes, it is illegal to change lanes in an intersection. I tell you it scared the daylights out of me.
There are so many things that I’m learning to do as I venture on this “don’t need anyone, I can be independent”  journey of mine. I guess dealing with the Tulsa Police, the car dealership, and the insurance people are just part of that.

Her Car

As you can see, the passenger side of my car is all sorts of bent up. Both doors won’t open. Along the bottom, there is a big hole where the metal is all twisted up. I can still drive my car, but I just kind of feel embarrassed, like people see me and think that I’m a bad driver! It’s not my fault! I swear!
My Car
Yes, thats the door, that is now not aligned with the car

I’m sure I’m not the only one who has had to deal with their first car wreck. Any advice out there?

I had my first wreck last August in rush hour traffic about 5:30 PM on an interstate! It was awful, and it was partially my fault. The woman in front of me clearly wasn't paying attention and slammed on brakes at the last minute. I, then, plowed into the back of her Honda Civic and went flying to the right side crossing 2 lanes of traffic! So scary. Luckily, two nice men stopped to make sure I was OK and defend me, as they saw the whole thing take place. Unfortunately, in the state of SC, when you hit someone from behind you are automatically at fault! It sucked being handed the ticket, but the lady I hit didn't show up in court, so all fees and charges were dropped! The only thing I had to pay out of pocket was my deductible to get my car fixed.

Advice: Take an aspirin or ibuprofen of some sort every morning for the next few days, even if you don't hurt. The tension from the hit, even if it was small, will make you sore.

Hope your car gets fixed soon!
